ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥੧੦॥
RAMKALI OF THE TENTH KING
rāmkalī pātishāhī ॥10॥
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਇਹਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੋਗੁ ਕਮਾਓ ॥
O Mind ! the Yoga be practised in this way :
rē man ihi bidhi jōgu kamāō ॥
ਸਿੰਙੀ ਸਾਚ ਅਕਪਟ ਕੰਠਲਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Consider the Truth as the horn, sincerity the necklace and meditation as ashes to be applied to your body……Pause.
siṅṅī sāc akapaṭ kaṇṭhlā dhiān bibhūt chaṛhāō ॥1॥ rahāu ॥
ਤਾਤੀ ਗਹੁ ਆਤਮ ਬਸਿ ਕਰ ਕੀ ਭਿੱਛਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰੰ ॥
Make self-control your lyre and the prop of the Name as your alms,
tātī gahu ātam basi kar kī bhichchhā nām adhārań ॥
ਬਾਜੇ ਪਰਮ ਤਾਰ ਤਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਉਪਜੈ ਰਾਗ ਰਸਾਰੰ ॥੧॥
Then the supreme essence will be played like the main string creating savoury divine music.1.
bājē param tār tatu hari kō upjai rāg rasārań ॥1॥
ਉਘਟੈ ਤਾਨ ਤਰੰਗ ਰੰਗਿ ਅਤਿ ਗਯਾਨ ਗੀਤ ਬੰਧਾਨੰ ॥
The wave of colourful tune will arise, manifesting the song of knowledge,
ughṭai tān taraṅg raṅgi ati gayān gīt bandhānań ॥
ਚਕਿ ਚਕਿ ਰਹੇ ਦੇਵ ਦਾਨਵ ਮੁਨਿ ਛਕਿ ਛਕਿ ਬਯੋਮ ਬਿਵਾਨੰ ॥੨॥
The gods, demons and sages would be amazed enjoying their ride in heavenly chariots.2.
chaki chaki rahē dēv dānav muni chhaki chhaki bayōm bivānań ॥2॥
ਆਤਮ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਭੇਸੁ ਸੰਜਮ ਕੋ ਜਾਪੁ ਸੁ ਅਜਪਾ ਜਾਪੇ ॥
While instructing the self in the garb of self-restraint and reciting God’s Name inwardly,
ātam updēsh bhēsu sañjam kō jāpu su ajapā jāpē ॥
ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਕੰਚਨ ਸੀ ਕਾਯਾ ਕਾਲ ਨ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਬਯਾਪੇ ॥੩॥੨॥
The body will always remain like gold and become immortal.3.2.

ਆਤਮ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਭੇਸੁ ਸੰਜਮ ਕੋ ਜਾਪੁ ਸੁ ਅਜਪਾ ਜਾਪੇ ॥
Ajapa-jap’ is a form of `Simran’ or `jap’ where `simran /jap’ is
done inwardly and silently and not through mouth or voice. So it can be called
inner or silent meditation also.
What is Simran? It comes from a Sanskrit word `Samaran” which means
“to remember’. Our `Gurmantar’ is `Waheguru’ . So our Simran or jap is
continuous repetition of `Waheguru’ i.e reciting or uttering waheguru
waheguru, waheguru & so on….
In Sikh religion Simran has been considered as a base or foundation of
‘Prabh Ka Simran Sab Te Uncha’ ( Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji, Sukhmani Sahib)
In other words when `waheguru’ is uttered repeated ly from our mouth,
it is called `japa’ and it is called `Ajapa-Jap’ when it is uttered repeatedly
inwardly or silently from the heart.
