The video extract we are analysing is from a recording of the lecture by Karminder, the Head Parcharak of MGC, at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar Medford, MA in 2004 (see LINK). 


This lecture, about 40 minute long, is meant to be on the Sikh Rehat Maryada.  

Karminder starts by stating that there are two aspects on any religion

  • the tenets which relates to understanding God
  • the practice which relates to how to reach God.

He then elaborates on these two points using faiths Islam, Christianity, Sanatan Mat (Hindu) and Bhuddism.  

Then he goes on to the Sikh faith.  The tenets in Sikhism are in Guru Granth Sahib.  The practice is the responsibility of the Akaal Takhat.  He relates the historical aspect of Akaal Takhat, how Guru Hargobind Singh started Akaal Takhat.  The Sikh religious practices are decided at Akaal Takhat.

About half way through his lecture, he goes into the topic of how Sikhs are being broken from the Guru Granth and from the Akaal Takhat (Maryada).  He attributes this to the Deras and Taksals and that they have been doing this for 100 to 150 years.

He says that the Deras and Taksals have set up their own Maryada which is against the Akaal Takhat.  He uses his favourite word “brabar  ਬਰਾਬਰ” stating that the Deras/Taksals have made themselves “brabar” to the Akaal Takhat.  He cites Rehras, detailing the differences between the Akaal Takhat and the Deras/Taksals rehat maryada as an example to illustrate the Deras and Taksals own Maryada. 

He further goes on to state that the Deras/Taksals have their own Amrit and Nitnem Maryada, again implying these are against the Akaal Takhat Maryada.  

He stresses numerous times that these Deras/Taksals are trying to break us from the Guru Granth.  He states that the roots of the Deras/Taksals go back to Sri Chand, Bidi Chand and  Ram Rai, who had gone against our Gurus.  This he cites the reason as to why the Deras/Taksals are not following the Akaal Takhat Maryada.

He further claims that these Deras/Taksals were supported by the governments.  In fact he adds that Maharaja Ranjit Singh was worse than the Mughals and the British since he supported the Deras/Taksals.

This is the first audio at the LINK.  There are four other audios of varying duration where he continues on the Sikh Rehat Maryada but the main focus in all these was to be attacking the Deras/Taksals instead of concentrating on the Sikh Rehat Maryada.  He uses strong derogatory language throughout his attack.

In this article we extract and analyse some parts of Karminder’s audio lecture. 

Note: It has been noticed that his is also very much the style of the Missionary preachers.  They concentrate on attacking what they think is wrong done by others rather than imparting the message of our Gurus.


The Video analyses some parts of the audio lecture by Karminder.  The strong derogatory language is quite apparent when he speaks.

Breaking us from the path

He is blaming some party stating that they have separated us from the Path, Gur Maryada and Akaal Takhat.  

These people, he says are the “Sant Mat ones (Sant Mat Valey)”.  By this he means the Deras and the Taksals.  This he says they have been doing for 100 to 150 years.

It is very perplexing to note that he says the Deras and Taksals are breaking the Sangat from the Guru.

By and large the Deras and the Taksals have a proven record of teaching and imparting true Sikhi to the Sikh Panth at large.  Just remember Sant Sohan Singh (Malacca) and Baba Jewala Singh (Bidor/Taiping).  What about Sant Attar Singh, Sant Niranjan Singh and many others who have benefitted the Sikh Sangat spiritually by imparting proper Sikhi values.

This denigration of the Deras and Taksals of recent times is promulgated by the Kala Afghana Brigade. This is exactly what Karminder is doing in his lecture. 

The Kala Afghana Brigade which includes the new age missionaries, have not made any useful contribution to the Sangat other than to cause division wherever they go (please see section “Dividing the Sangat” below).

What have the Kala Afghana Brigade to show but “CAUSING DIVISION” in the Sangat?

It has been shown that Karminder is a very strong follower of the Kala Afghana Brigade through many articles at Gurvichar.  

This article confirms that he was an ardent Kala Afghana follower form at least far back as 2004.

Remember he is the Head Parcharak and key person in the Dharam Parchar committee of the Malaysian Gurdwaras Council.  


Nothing outside of the Kala Afghana Ideology!  Which, by the way, is a bag full of falsehood.

Deras and Taksals are against the Akaal Takhat

He says that the Deras and Taksals have behaved as equal to the Akaal Takhat  implying that they intend to replace the Akaal Takhat.  This has been going on for 100 to 150 years.

Karminder is quick to blame the Deras and Taksals for going against the Akaal Takhat but forgets that the main exponents Gurbaksh Kala Afghana and Ragi Darshan of the Kala Afghana Brigade have been excommunicated from the Sikh Panth.  Others from the Kala Afghana Brigade have denigrated banee from Dasam Granth as well as Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, even to the extent of distorting many of the key tenets taught by our Gurus.

Another point to note is that Karminder implies the Deras and Taksals want to replace the Akaal Takhat.  Then he goes on to say that this has been for the last 150 years.

The question is does Karminder mean to say that the Deras and Taksals who want to replace the Akaal Takhat have not been able to do so in 150 years? He should stop showing his “moorakhta” or foolishness in his LIES.  That the Deras or Taksals have the intention of taking over the Akaal Takhat is doubtful and a fallacy that Karminder is creating

Deras and Taksals are not following the Akaal Takhat Maryada

Karminder says that the Deras and Taksals are not following the Akaal Takhat Maryada because they recite more banee during Rehraas as is prescribed in the Akaal Takhat Maryada.

To recite more banee than prescribed is wrong?  What is this moorakh (fool) trying to say?  It is like saying that if the speed limit is 80 then driving at 70 is against the traffic laws.  

He, going around Malaysia teaching reason, logic and critical thinking, is supposed to be the expert on reasoning, logic and critical thinking.  What happened to this skill of reason, logic and critical thinking?  Does he really understand these words?  From what he says it is hard to believe that he truly understands reason, logic and critical thinking.

Why are people attending his presentations?  To learn what he” does not know” vis-à-vis falsehood?

Does he really understand what the Sikh Rehat Maryda is?  I have my doubts.  If he did he would advise the MGC that banning Guru Gobind Singh’s banee in Dasam Granth Banee is against the Sikh  Rehat Maryada.  

He did not do that, OR is he one of the key person who ADVISED MCG to ban Guru Gobind Singh’s banee in Dasam Granth?  Note that he is subservient to, and faithfully abiding by the Kala Afghana Ideology.

With his Kala Afghana Ideology adherence, is Karminder the one to be the key person in the Dharam Parchar Committee of the MGC?

Note that the Sikh Rehat Maryada does not ban Guru Gobind Singh’s banee (in Dasam Granth).  In fact it states this is Gurbani.  See Figure 3 red underlined part.

Even Maharaja Ranjit Singh is not spared

Karminder states that Maharaja Ranjit Singh is worse than the Mughals and the British because he supported the Deras and Taksals in damaging the Sikh Rehat Maryada.

Karminder in his derogatory language does not even spare Maharaja Ranjit Singh accusing him to be worse than either the Mughals or the British.

The question to this moorakh is does he follow the Sikh Rehat Maryada he portrays to know so much about? 

He questions simran, nitnem, amrit banees and ardas to name a few which by the way are clearly stipulated in the SRM.  Why question if he follows SRM?  Most likely he does not!


With this venomous style of attacking anyone (e.g. the Deras, Taksals, Maharaja Ranjit Singh) who does not go by the Kala Afghana Ideology, he very likely managed to poison the mind of some of the Sangat.  This resulted in a divided Sangat.  This is clearly evident in the Figure 5.

And Sangat Ji, today he is the Head Parcharak and the key person in the Dharam Parchar (religious affairs) group in the Malaysian Gurdwaras Council (MGC).

The Sangat is wise and will understand.


Karminder’s audio seems to be an attacking session on the Deras and Taksals in the guise of explaining the Sikh Rehat Maryada.

It appears a joke, void of any sense, that Karminder claims that reciting banee more than that prescribed in the Sikh Rehat Maryada is in contravention of the maryada.

This is a typical Kala Afghana Brigade style of propagating their ideology to which Karminder seems to exhibit a very strong affinity.  

Dividing the Sangat appears to be Karminder’s forte.

It is questionable if Karminder really understands and follows the Sikh Rehat Maryada.  

His contribution to Sikhi related matters is questionable considering his alignment as well as his role as the key person in the MGC Dharam Parchar Group.  

Sangat Ji please Beware of these Kala Afghana Brigade people who are hell bent on propagating the Kala Afghana ideology and destroying Sikhi.  


The future of Sikhi is in your hands Sangat Ji.
